What you'll learn

“With the growing threat of COVID-19 hitting the world, the enthusiasm of gaining awareness on this pandemic has become routine among the normal individual. The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked an unprecedented wave of research, data sharing and open science as the scientific world seeks to understand the disease, track its spread and analyze the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. The WHO estimates an average mortality rate of 3.4%, which is around 100 times higher than flu — but do note that average is across age brackets. Current evidence suggests that the fatality rate from Covid-19 ranges from 9% to 19% for older individuals, as well as for people with conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer and those who are immunocompromised. Even if you are not at high risk yourself, we still all have a public health obligation to take interventions that will prevent spread and overwhelm the health care system. This can only be possible if we have a thorough and exhaustive knowledge on COVID 19 which can help us to implement it in our day to day life. As COVID is a respiratory infection and can spread from animals to humans and humans to humans, it has progressively become a pandemic in a short period which awakens us to build up knowledge to how to break the chain of COVID 19.

Effective infection prevention and control (IPC) is the cornerstone for the delivery of safe, effective, high-quality health care. They include PPE kits, infection control in health care settings, sanitization etc. The guidelines and integrated strategies for infection control can significantly contribute to other priorities such as stopping the spread of antimicrobial resistance and outbreaks. It also helps the countries and health care facilities develop action plans to prevent current and future threats.
This course gives us an extensive review on Donning and doffing of PPE, IPC for nurses, house keeping staff, IPC for health care settings etc.”
